13 Year Old Donates Pocket Money To Winds of Winter Cause, Gets Matched $10,000
A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin recently promised to deliver a “grisly death” in his next book Winds of Winter, on behalf of anybody who donated $20,000 to the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary through his online campaign. The fundraiser was a huge success, with all spots filled, however one 13 year old fan wrote Martin a letter when he couldn’t quite muster the donation.
The young wolf lover Jack had saved all of his pocket money and managed to raise £153, which he donated to the cause. In his letter to Martin he said that when he grows up he wants to be a wolf conservationist and mentioned the UK Wolf Conservation Trust.
Touched by the letter Martin wrote back to the boy and more than matched the £153, with a £10,000 donation of his own to the Trust.
“I cannot promise you a grisly death in THE WIND OF WINTER. Those spots have already been filled by some very generous donors, and there’s a limit to how many people even I can kill,” responded Martin.
“However, inspired by your example, my friends at Prizeo and I would love to follow your lead with a $10,000 in your name to the UK Wolf Conservation Trust. That’s a wonderful organization that I’ve heard much about, and they are lucky to count people like you as supporters. I wish you the best of luck in your future career as a wolf conservationist, and hope that you inspire many others to follow your lead.”
