Half Life 3 Still Not Here Yet, But Half Life Remake Black Mesa Hits Early Access!
While Valve has still been utterly silent on the status of Half Life 3, many people are still working on things that are Half Life 3 related. A concept artist, Shane Baxley, has shown off some of his work on what he would like Half Life 3 to look like. He just finished working on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which is due out this November.
Baxley had some spare time on his hands, and decided to release some Half Life 3 concept art. While the images are mostly teasers for Half Life fans, many people are simply glad to see that there is still a lot of interest for the game. Black Mesa, a fan made remake of the original Half Life, has now appeared on Steam Early Access for $19.99. The game has been in development for over eight years, and isn’t finished yet.
The story and most of the level layouts remain the same. But, because the in-game physics are different, some puzzles will be a little easier, while others will be more difficult. Black Mesa supports most of Steam’s Workshop features, so other players can make their own maps and mods for the game. Additionally, Black Mesa supports many different kinds of multiplayer, so fans of the older Half Life multiplayer can have something to play as well.
Many people didn’t like multiplayer that Half Life 2 brought to the table, but at the time, Half Life was starting to show its age, and many people simply went on to play other games. Multiplayer has been a bit of a sore spot for the Half Life series. While every game in the series has had some multiplayer, the series in general has typically been a single player experience.
This is somewhat challenging because in recent years, Valve has focused somewhat strictly on multiplayer games. The main reason many people think that Half Life 3 isn’t coming is because it’s primarily a single player game. If Valve were to release it, there is a good chance that it would be for their new HTC Vive virtual reality system. They typically release new games with new technology that they’ve developed. Many people would purchase an HTC Vive to try out Half Life 3, and the game would be one of the first major virtual reality AAA games to be released.
