OnePlus One Continues to have Touchscreen Problems, OnePlus Says It’s a Firmware Issue!
The OnePlus One is a smartphone that many people were excited about when it was first announced. It was released in 2014, and is attractive because it has close to flagship specs at a mid-range price. For instance, the smartphone has a 5.5-inch 1080p screen and a Snapdragon 801 processor. It can be had for around $300. However, after OnePlus started shipping the OnePlus One, people started to notice that the screen had issues with the touchscreen becoming unresponsive.
The problem wasn’t widespread at first because you had to have an invite to purchase the phone. This kept the supply of the relatively cheap smartphone low for most of the past year. A staff member for OnePlus, who goes by the name of Carl on their forums, says that OnePlus is currently looking for a solution to the problem. He also said that they’re specifically working with Synaptics, a company who produces touch and biometrics hardware, to find a solution to the problem.
There is no ETA yet, but Carl did encourage people who were having issues to contact OnePlus’s improved customer support if they were having any issues. OnePlus one recently launched their own version of Android called OxygenOS. They were previously using CyanogenMod, but due to some differences between the two companies (Cyanogen and OnePlus), they decided to go their separate ways. OnePlus says that using OxygenOS will allow them to offer better support for the hardware in their phones.
Users who have an OnePlus One with CyanogenMod will be able to switch over to OxygenOS for free. Back in November, OnePlus issued an update which appeared to fix most of the touchscreen problems that OnePlus was having with the OnePlus One. However, OnePlus is saying this latest round of touchscreen issues will have to be solved using a firmware update they are working on.
The touchscreen issue seems to be affecting OnePlus One’s running CyanogenMod or OxygenOS. There also seems to be a number of issues with the latest version of CyanogenMod, 12S. Users have posted over 300 pages issues they’ve had with the latest update on OnePlus One’s forum. However, CyanogenMod 11 and OxygenOS do not seem to be having these issues, so the quickest fix would be to install one of those Android ROMs for now.
