Miley Cyrus Sings her Own Version of “Santa Baby”
The newest feminism anthem!
Thursday night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Miley Cyrus was supposed to perform the Christmas classic “Santa Baby”, but she was not feeling the outdated lyrics, so she made some adjustments.
Instead of asking for jewelry, cars, or checks she says to Santa that she doesn’t want any presents, neither jewelry, nor diamonds, because she can buy her own stuff. Adding “Listen, Santa, to what I say/ A girl’s best friend is equal pay,” hinting basically to an important struggle of women throughout 2018, as well as to the #metoo movement and harassment at work.
Jimmy accompanied by Mark Ronson also appear during the song, bringing Miley the presents mentioned by the original song, like jewelry and keys to a brand new car, but when Miley sings she does not want those type of presents they feel embarrassed and don’t give them to her anymore.
This updated cover comes soon after another cover of hers was released, performed in collaboration with Mark Ronson and Sean Ono Lennon, “War is Over”, based on John Lennon’s “Happy Christmas”.
